Summer Empowerment Academy
Program Details
The Manifest Your Destiny Foundation believes that the high school dropout epidemic is one of the most pressing issues in public education today. Several studies suggest that providing students with mentoring and academic support during the high school transition significantly reduces their dropout risk. The Summer Empowerment Academy ("S.E.A.") is a mentoring and educational support program for youth who have completed 8th grade and entering 9th grade from economically challenged neighborhoods. The program is designed specifically to address the dropout epidemic.
Tasked with facing the education and dropout epidemic, in partnership with West Los Angeles College’s Educational Opportunity Center, the Manifest Your Destiny team, created the S.E.A. The S.E.A. provides students and parents with mentoring, educational support and motivation during the high school transition.
Previously, the S.E.A. was one-week long, and now has been extended to two weeks. When the S.E.A. scholars complete the two-week-long training, a world of opportunity has been opened to them. However, the educational enlightenment and mentorship support continues long after the intensive summer program ends. A Saturday Academy is hosted from 9am-3pm the third Saturday of each month. We continue to mentor our students throughout their high school careers.
S.E.A mentors have been successful in implementing progressive curricula while empowering, uplifting and inspiring the participants. With the amazing demand and continued success, the Manifest Your Destiny Foundation is in the process of planning the national expansion of the S.E.A
